Tanya brings amazing skills to her role as choir leader. She is able to engage with and encourage even the least confident singers. Her energy and enthusiasm generate a warm, happy atmosphere where choristers can flourish.
Tanya has an impressive CV. She has sung with The Victoria State Opera and Opera Australia. She has taken part in a variety of musicals and has sung with the NSW Police Band and most recently the Australian Army Band with which she still sings. Her teaching experience with individuals and groups is very extensive.
A sensitive and highly versatile pianist, Dewi holds a Master of Music from Sydney Conservatorium of Music where she studied solo piano with Gerard Willems, Clemens Leske, and Phillip Shovk, and collaborative piano with David Miller. As well as playing as a soloist, chamber music has always been her passion.
Dewi was awarded third prize in the open piano accompaniment competition held by The International Wales Piano Festival in the United Kingdom 2016. She was also a finalist in the Sydney Conservatorium Piano Concerto Competition 2011 and has received numerous awards from Sydney and Wollongong Eistedffod. In 2015 Dewi was granted a full pianist scholarship to participate in Bel Canto Summer Voice Program in Munich.
Her past professional engagements include duo performance with renowned soloists such as Geotz Richter, Michael Halliwell, Julian Smiles, James Kortum, Yvonne Kenny, Rowena Cowley, Zara Barrett and David Hobson. Since 2012 she has played for many choirs and was appointed as principal accompanist to Sydney Male Choir in 2013. Dewi currently teaches piano at Meriden, St Leo’s catholic college and Master Piano Institute, and has recently joined the piano accompaniment team at Sydney Church of England Grammar School.
